When you use Internet Explorer 6.0 you may be prompted to enable your cookies. If you are prompted to enable cookies, follow these steps. What are cookies? Cookies are very small text files (usually around 50 to 150 bytes and always less than 4kb) downloaded from a Web site by your browser. Some stay in your Random Access Memory and are deleted when you close your browser. Others are saved to your hard drive when you close your browser. What are Software Downloads and what can they do for me? Software Downloads are carrier software developed and provided to GWINS to be placed on the Web site. This gives agents the ability to download the individual carrier software to their computers. This is ideal for those agents that need to run illustrations, but can't always be connected to the Internet. Once downloaded, the agent can run carrier illustrations and obtain quotes. Once the software is downloaded, the agent must update the software periodically. Most of the software updates can be downloaded from the Web site. The software is divided by groups, (LTC, Annuity, Term, Other), and then by the carrier names. What is the difference between comparisons and illustrations? Comparisons do just that, they compare different carrier prices based on the parameters placed in the comparison software fields. An Illustration is when you have selected a carrier and you want to get a quote from that carrier based on the parameters. How can I get started downloading software? To begin downloading software, log on to the Web site,
select the Software Downloads link under the Favorites column on the bottom of the home page.
Then, click on "Continue to Software Downloads" under the title "Software that Updates Itself."
Once you select the carrier you will see the following:
The headings are in bold and should be looked over before continuing with the software download. A break down of each of these headings are as follows: Product Material Name: Tells you the name of the carrier software you are downloading. Version: Version of the software. Released: The release date of the software. Size/min @ 28.8: The size of the file being downloaded and the length of time the download will take using a 28.8k Internet connection. Comments: Instructions on how to download the software along with any applicable codes or unique characteristics. Type: Method used for downloading software. In this case it is the Install Shield Wizard. Link: This is the link that will begin the steps for the download. You will notice each link will begin with Software - then applicable download type. Example: SOFTWARE-ALL Required for all downloads. SOFTWARE-LIFE Required for LIFE downloads. SOFTWARE-LTC Required for LTC downloads. Etc. Where can I find passwords for software downloads/updates? Be sure to first check the instructions link in the Comments column under software downloads. A majority of the time the passwords will be listed here.
If the passwords are not listed then contact Internet Support at 888-246-0011. I cannot see the Install Shield Wizard button. What do I do? Get more information about the Install Shield Wizard. What are other ways I may get an Illustration besides Software Downloads? Get more information about running Illustrations.
